Science News and Science News Explores are published by the nonprofit Society for Science, dedicated to public engagement in scientific research and education.

TERMS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPUBLICATION PERMISSION

Science News and Science News Explores grants non-exclusive, one-time rights to reproduce content to third parties for editorial, commercial and educational purposes. Publishers, educators, media organizations and other institutions may acquire such rights to republish articles in books, on their websites or for classroom course packets, assessments, handouts, etc.

REPUBLICATION TERMS

Permissions are granted for text of articles only; rights to use photographs or graphic art elements must be negotiated directly with the original copyright holder.

Requester may not edit, translate or alter articles unless such alterations are approved in advance by the Society for Science. Minor editing privileges may incur additional charges as determined by the Society.

All republished articles must attribute Science News or Science News Explores as the original source of the article and leave the author’s name and original publication date intact. (Example: “Jane Doe, Science News, October 20, 2018. Used with permission”.)

Permission is not granted until the Society sends requester a confirmation of permission in writing (via email, fax or postal service). The Society will take all reasonable steps to respond to requests in a timely manner, typically within 5-10 business days. Expedited responses may be requested for an additional charge.

Cancellations are possible only prior to the Society notifying requester that permission is granted. All invoices are due in full 30 days from the invoice date, regardless of whether approved content is used. Payment not received within 30 days of date invoices will result in an additional charge of $1.5% per month. Additionally, customer is responsible for collection costs, including reasonable attorney fees incurred in the collection process.

All rates indicated are net amounts in U.S. dollars. Additional tax, regulatory fees or any other charges are the responsibility of the party seeking permission.
