- Science News is published by the Society for Science & the Public, which also runs the Intel Science Talent Search (formerly Westinghouse Science Talent Search). Six Talent Search finalists have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.
- The current Chairman of the Board, Dudley Herschbach, is a Nobel Prize winner for chemistry (1986). Other Board members include 2002 Nobel Prize winner Robert Horvitz and The Aspen Institute’s Walter Isaacson.
- The May 10, 2008 Science News issue marks milestones including:
o Redesign with a fresh, contemporary look
o Shift from a weekly to a biweekly frequency
o Size increase from 16 to 40 pages.
- Staying true to its mission, Science News provides context and insight on major science-related issues; explores new developments at the frontiers of current knowledge; and covers worthy new science books. New departments include a space for comment from distinguished scientists on matters where the concern of science and society converge.
- Science News has relaunched its Web site, www.sciencenews.org, delivering up-to-the-minute stories on the frontiers of research. The web site and biweekly schedule provide readers with a perfect blend of daily availability for those who can’t wait, and biweekly delivery in print for those who prefer a more leisurely pace of information acquisition.
- Nearly 75% of its readers are in the science/education/health or business/engineering/technology fields. The average age of readers ranges from 46 – 55; 74% are male, while 26% are female. 57% have a graduate degree.
- Science News reaches 117,000 print subscribers and 45,000 online daily unique visitors.
